In the Bag was a free-access online research platform that equips designers, students and those wanting to use design to address issues of crime by making key information, which is typically located in crime science reports, readily accessible, visually understandable and engaging. The resource was bolstered by previous research DACRL had undertaken during practice-led projects including Grippa, Stop Thief and Karrysafe.

Anyone using the platform can get a quick understanding of common ‘street crimes’ such as pick-pocketing, bag theft and loss of personal products, including the common techniques used by perpetrators in these crimes. In the Bag also showcased new design work coming out of DACRL research and a range of ‘takeaway’ briefs to challenge designers to ‘have a go’ at design against crime. The platform also offers references to help anyone who wants to explore the topic at an academic level.
